[Split from Unidentified radio/newsreel music]

Is there a name to this what appears to be march music in Die Deutsche Wochenschau Nr. 592? It also appears in Nr. 568.

Here's a recording I have of a music played during a DW report from 1944. It was also used earlier in one of the Afrika Korps report, in 1942 I believe. I have a limited knowledge of WW2 german music so, if anyone can help me to identify (and maybe obtain) the music, It will be very appreciated.

Hello, Aleksandre

I've merged your post with an older topic dealing with the same piece. It's "Marsch der deutschen Jugend" from the 1941 movie "Jungens", music by Werner Egk, lyrics by Hans Fritz Beckmann.

You can find a full recording of the march on the CD/LP "In Treue allezeit" (part 1, track 6). But note that they credited a wrong composer and performer (scroll down to my list in the provided link for correct info).

Cheers,
Ivan

Thank you very much, Ivan ! Do you know if the orchestral version (without chants, as heard in the reports) exists and is available somewhere ?

Hello, Aleksandre (and you're welcome)

The recording I mentioned (by Musikkorps des Wachbataillons Berlin) is, as you may have read in my list, an instrumental (orchestral) recording. It was made for the "Telefunken" Company. The recordings used in newsreels were radio recordings, and they are very hard to find. I don't know whether a radio recording of this march still exists (maybe - in the German Radio Archive, or in a private collection unknown to me).

Cheers,
Ivan

Oh, so this was also on this CD ?

I have it somewhere with other war music CDs. I cannot check for now but from what I've found on internet, it's a slower instrumental recording.

Yes, that's a copy of the track from the "Documentary Series" LP/CD I mentioned. Notice that they also copied the wrong composer/performer. The speed is normal.

Cheers,
Ivan

Thank you very much again, Ivan. I have one last question : do you have informations about the original releases, the one with chants (runtime 1:24) and the instrumental (runtime 3:18 - from the mentioned CD), please ? I would like to add more precise credits, like the title of the vinyl, performers, etc.

Thank you for the informations about the instrumental version. I wasn't sure if it was the same as the topic linked previously, sorry for that.

This one is the version with chants : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExPLMnVTioY
I know YouTube is not a reliable source but it sounds like it was recorded during WW2. If you have any information about this version, it will be greatly appreciated.

Ah, that's the original movie version, from "Jungens". (But I don't know who recorded it.)

Ivan

Thank you very much again for all the informations and for taking time to explain me all that. I really appreciate. I'll try to take a look at the movie to see if a better quality recording exists, and try to find informations about the music if possible.

You're always welcome. Sometimes they write who recorded the film music in this excellent website, which I mentioned (linked) earlier https://www.filmportal.de/film/jungens_ ... 12125071e8 (click "Alle Credits"). But not this time though. There's only a note "Musikalische Leitung: Werner Egk; Ludwig Preiß (Assistenz)". I assume the composer (Egk) conducted the recording of the main movie song (as composers often did), but I don't know which orchestra/chorus participated in it.

Cheers,
Ivan
