It remains a popular enough song in its genre to date. Somewhere I have it on vinyl record played by a Bundeswehr band, and there are many renditions on-line and video. From elsewhere here in the Forum: it was an old Imperial German Army marching song from before World War I. But no particular branch of the Army is apparent.

Many seem to remember well the song's use as the main title of the musical score for the film Judgment at Nuremberg (1961).

Quite nice 1930 version by tenor August Batzem.

Ha, I've never thought about it, but now that you (they) mention it, it does sound böhmisch :) Many European regions have been credited as the source of the melody though, but the oldest sources (known to me) usually also credited Bohemia.

Can anybody write me the lyrics to this song phonetically, I like this song but don’t speak any German so I mispronounce most of it.

I want to sing it like I know the words, pronouncing them correctly without actually learning German (yet)

So a phonetic version of the German lyrics would be great fully appreciated
