Hello, Nauzica, thanks for the kind words and :welcome:

As for the song, I don't remember hearing it anywhere except in that movie.

Altes Herz wird wieder jung (1943)

#123

Post by Al B. » 28 Dec 2019, 11:30

Scene from the movie "Altes Herz wird wieder jung" (1943) featuring tenor Max Lorenz and soprano Tiana Lemnitz.

https://youtu.be/8hAE_Y_qENA?t=298

The music is Verdi's "Otello", specifically the duet "Già nella notte densa", or "Nun in der nacht'gen Stille" in its German adaptation.

I wonder if we can get a list of the songs in the movie from 1933 called "Deutschland erwacht - Ein Dokument von der Wiedergeburt Deutschlands"
Coming soon! And you owe me a pack of beer for this one :) (It's really hard to hear some of the music, which was mixed horribly.)

Cheers,
Ivan

Music in Triumph of the Will

#127

Post by WhiteFeather » 18 Nov 2020, 21:37

Greetings. I am a film school graduate who studied "Triumph of the Will" in film school. I own two DVDs of it. I am asking about the music behind Hitler when he emerges from the plane at the beginning of the film. I hear Tchaikovsky, but that can't be right, can it? I have looked on the internet to see if I find a listing for that part of the soundtrack, but I have come up empty, so I am writing to you now. Thank you.

Hello and :welcome:

The music for the film, as you probably know, was composed by Herbert Windt. There's also a number of older pieces included, composed by other composers (see the list here). The music in the sequence you're interested in (I remember it well) was, as far as I could tell, composed by Windt (but I don't know whether he named it or not).

Cheers,
Ivan

Note: several posts dealing with the "Triumph of the Will" script have been split off into a new topic.

Der Choral von Leuthen (1933)

#129

Post by J. Duncan » 18 Nov 2021, 13:25

Hi. Does anyone know these 2 marches from the film “Der Choral von Leuthen”? Prussia , Frederick Der Grosse…it may be the same March (one March) with a variation.

Hello, J.

There's one march, starting at 1:16 (it is a bit remixed though). It is Marc Roland's "Der Leuthener Grenadiermarsch", composed for the movie. Reminder: Roland is best known as composer of "Parademarsch der Langen Kerls", from "Fridericus Rex" (another Frederick the Great movie).

A commercial (period) recording of his "Der Leuthener Grenadiermarsch" was made in 1933 by the band of SS-Standarte 42, for Lindström's "Gloria" label. You can find a scan of its "Parlophon" release here viewtopic.php?f=81&t=218348#p1972451

A modern recording of the march: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HpuvWYnEvc

Cheers,
Ivan

Thanks Ivan . That’s interesting. I was fooled. I thought it was actual March from time of Frederick used for film. I appreciate you fixing the video link. I’m not very tech savvy.

Der Sieg des Glaubens (1933)

#132

Post by Ferdinand1804 » 30 Dec 2022, 00:46

Hello my fellow friends. I write because three days ago, I watched the film: "Der Sieg des Glaubens", from 1933. There are two questions for me. First, which is the song that is played when the HJ meets Hitler, not the Lockmarsch one, the next. It's about min. 33. The second is that i achieved to increase the quality of the song "Wach' auf, du deutsches Land" that is being sang by chorus in min. 22. I cannot identify all the words, but i would appreciate if anyone wanted to try out. Thank you a have good New Year.

Hello, Ferdinand1804, and :welcome:

You will find a list of identified compositions used in the film here: viewtopic.php?f=81&t=212742#p763943
However, the one you're interested in doesn't appear to be identified yet (it's possibly one of the pieces composed specifically for the film).

We already have a topic on the film song "Wach' auf, du deutsches Land", see: viewtopic.php?f=81&t=212881
Unfortunately, no (original) lyrics have surfaced yet (reminder: it's not the well-known XVI century song of the same name).

By the way, always feel free to post different questions in separate topics, it makes future browsing and cataloguing easier.

Cheers and Happy New Year,
Ivan

A post containing an already identified title has been removed. Please read the posts more carefully to avoid doubling.

Edit, 31.01.2023: A post containing a link to a full Nazi propaganda movie adding nothing to this thread's subject has been removed.
