Is it me or did that not even open for some? I am suspicious that a persons first post should involve a download, especially as my KIS picked nothing up.

This is 'Jugend trauert', composed by Ernst Hanfstaengl in 1933 for the film 'Hans Westmar'.

"Day 4" of Triumph of the Will with Hitler and Himmler marching toward the monument (a tribute to the dead I believe) right down the middle aisle between the thousands of SA and SS men....what is the name of that song? I believe it might be one of many great classics from Wagner, but I can't find it. It's also at the beginning of Hans Westmar. It's the song right at the very beginning with the opening credits.

Please help. That music is absolutely beautiful and would like to get the name so I can get a copy.

Thanks!

Wow thank you so much! I would have never guessed that it came from the Hitlerjugend choir! It's beautiful!

"Hitlerjugend choir"...?

If you are referring to the low quality sound file on YouTube, this is who performs it:
(it's a Prussian army band, not a "Hitlerjugend choir")

The low quality sound file on YouTube comes from the French "SERP" company's LP/CD "Hitlerjugend".

The Jugend trauert version I personally prefer is that of the Hans Westmar film itself. Although it was made under the supervision of Hanfstaengl himself, it seems that it was probably conducted by Giuseppe Becce (I guess he also contributed a bit to the film's score). Unfortunately, all copies of HW I've ever seen are derived from the same source (a bad copy sneaked out of the Federal Film Archive of the FRG government in Germany in the 1980s when the archive was still located at Koblenz in Western Germany). As a result, there is no possibility of cross-copying to patch missing or damaged parts of the soundtrack. All one can do is to restore it by assembling parts cut out of the same movie. (But it works: take the missing part at the very beginning from the corresponding of the funeral scene, etc., etc., flatten clicks, a little bit filtering, and you will get a very impressing version out of that movie... *grinning*).

Hey Helly..hope you are doing well. I tried and tried to get an answer for you on this and I recognise the refrain of the tune but it's very hard to filter the sound with all the shouting and screaming from the people in the movie. It's not a song that is on any of my Third Reich CD recordings either and I have about 20 of these with about 20 songs per CD. I think it's a more obscure tune.

I've seen this film several times and although it's an intersting historical piece, it's quite dull compared to "Hitlerjunge Quex" or "Hans Westmar". HW is probably the best of the three "kampfzeit" films, with many recognisable tunes. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, as I wanted to know what this march was too.

Hi, I know that you posted this some years ago, but I was hoping you still have this mp3, and could post it. I would really like to have a copy!
