[Topic entitled "Help to identify a sentimental song" renamed by the host, Ivan Ž.]

Does the following ring a bell with anyone?

"My father won't recognize me, my mother doesn't love me, and I don't want to die, I'm young!"

Waldeslust, Waldeslust,
o, wie einsam schlägt die Brust.
Mein Vater kennt mich nicht,
meine Mutter liebt mich nicht,
und sterben mag ich nicht,
bin noch so jung.

Yes. My impression is that it is a loose translation. It appears in a story regarding a German officers' club ca.1943, and was described as a "sentimental hit song"

Indeed, it is a popular folk song from late XIX century.

Outstanding! How are you with Ukrainian folk songs? - "the Ant" - "I am the most industrious of animals, but I am always exposed to danger. Everyone tramples me with their feet and I cannot defend myself. Therefore I ask God [for] at least one pair of wings.’”

I'm familiar with quite a few Ukrainian folk songs, but that one does not ring a bell - and, also, it would be off-topic here. You can try your luck at The Soviet Union at War 1917-1945 section, or some other forum.

Cheers,
Ivan
