Trompeterkorps der 8. SS-Kavallerie-Division "Florian Geyer"

Post by Ivan Ž. » 27 Jul 2020 14:52

Three images by SS-Kriegsberichter Max Büschel, published in the postcard series entitled "Unsere Waffen-SS".

Note: at the time the photos were taken (1942, according to the Bundesarchiv), the official unit designation was either "SS-Kavallerie-Division" or "SS-Kavallerie-Brigade" (the brigade was upgraded to a division in June 1942).

Two more photos by the same photographer, taken on 5 July 1941 near Lyck, during a parade for Himmler. At the time, the unit was known as SS-Kavallerie-Regiment 1 (together with SS-Kavallerie-Regiment 2, it formed the SS-Kavallerie-Brigade in August the same year).

Good evening Ivan,

Is the former nickname of this drummer horse known, please share your intensive knowledge ?

I am not into horses very much, but the photos are impressive, sorry for my stupid question.

Hello, Hans1906

I haven't heard of any names related to that particular horse, although I'm sure it had one (military animals were/are usually named).

Cheers,
Ivan
