Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) soundtrack

Post by Recoome » 29 Oct 2002 00:47

[Several threads dealing with "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" soundtrack have been merged by the music section host, Ivan Ž.]

In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, the part where Indy is dressed as a nazi at the rally, and bumps into hitler. Anyone know the name of the song that's playing during the scene?

The name of this march is Königgrätzer Marsch.
Königgrätz is the name of a battlefield. and the battle was occurred in 1866, Prussia vs Austria. the battle was very fierce that even Bismarck was gotten wounded in action.
It was said that Gottfried Piefke had been made this march just in 3 hours during the battle.

Nazi marching music in Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade

Post by Director » 19 Jul 2003 14:13

In the scene when Indy and his father "enter the lion's den", what is the name of the tune the SS are marching to? I've always associated it with Nazi Germany, so it must have been wriiten for the armies of the 3rd Riech. So, can anyone help me? I'd like that music in my student film. Name, artist and availability?
Thank you.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

OK, don't snicker- in Last Crusade, there is a march in the scene involving a political rally where Indy confronts Ilse about the Grail Diary-

I've heard it in a period musik and in parodying the Siegfried Line so it's for real.

What is the name of this march?

It's the old "Königgrätzer Marsch", composed by Gottfried Piefke.

Cheers,
Ivan

This is the most sterotypical question ever about german marches: "what's the song in the movie India Jones when they're burnign the books...?"

it's such a popular question they even tell you about this movie scene in Piefke's official wikipedia entry, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piefke

On neo-nazi websites Der Königgrätzer is always named the "Nazi-Book-Burning March"

I've come to dislike this song, as everytime I hear it I am reminded of the ignorance of mainstream culture and/or racist groups to the true depth of german military music.

FDDT, I know very well what you mean, but "splinterb" joined the forum today and I don't think it's polite to greet new members with a "lol" response to their questions...

Welcome to the forum, "splinterb" :)

Cheers,
Ivan

Thanks for your answer Ivan, and kind reception- I admit it is a trivial question, and I tried to preface it as such, but one that's been nagging me for years-

Im looking for some of the songs that were played in Nazi propaganda films and some of the marches. I hear them all the time in clips from the History Channel.

The kind of tune I'm looking for is hard to explain,,, but for anyone who watched the Indiana Jones - Last Crusade movie, the scene where Indiana is in that Nazi parade and bumps into Hitler with his dads diary in hand. The song playing in that background?

What was it called and where can I find it?

The song you are looking for is called Königgrätzer Marsch by Prussian composer Johann Gottfried Piefke (1815-1884).

It was composed in honour of the victorious Prussian side of the Austro-Prussian War in 1866.
