Steinmetz-Marsch [by K. Bratfisch]

Post by PenKetzen » 22 May 2022 08:10

[Topic entitled "Help Identifying this song." renamed by the host, Ivan Ž.]

Hello Forum, can anyone help me recognize this song for a friend? We have tried to look for it but can't seem to find it. We think it might be "Auf der Lüneburger Heide" but aren't sure.

It is the song from 5:02 until the end.

Thanks in advance, Pen.

Hello, Pen, and :welcome:

It's Karl Bratfisch's "Steinmetz-Marsch" (starting at 4:47 actually).

Composed in 1867 in commemoration of the Battle of Skalitz (28 June 1866) and its victor, General Karl Friedrich von Steinmetz (1796-1877).

Cheers,
Ivan

Hello,

Is this song still used today by militaries? Or was it cut after World War Two.
Also, was it a popular song during World War Two?

Thanks

Hello and welcome (back?) to the forum.

Yes, the march is still used today and it wasn't particularly significant (popular nor unpopular) during WWII.

Cheers,
Ivan

Thank you for the welcome back, I lost my old account on an old laptop.

Thank you for the response, I never really saw it in footage or movies from the time. So I was unsure.
