Music of the NSKK

#1

Post by Alarm_Uboat » 20 Nov 2022, 16:23

[Topic entitled "Songs of the NSKK" expanded by the host to include all NSKK music, which was primarily instrumental. I. Ž.]

I am looking for various recordings of NSKK songs as well as lyrics to them.

A post by member Ewald_Lüttwitz containing unsourced lyrics and links to two political recordings - one of which was (re-)uploaded on the linked site by member Alarm_Uboat himself (copied from JPF) - has been removed as unnecessary. I'm sure that Alarm_Uboat is familiar with what he posted, as well as with the other track from the same site, which has been available online for over a decade. Read this post as well please.

Incidentally, those two songs ("Adolf-Hühnlein-Marsch" and "Schwarze Hosen, braune Hemden") are the only commercially recorded NSKK songs. The first one was published in a printed form, the other wasn't. There are four commercial recordings of the first song and only one of the other.

If by "complete record" you mean a recording containing complete lyrics, the answer is no. The recorded NSKK music consisted almost exclusively of instrumental marches, and "Adolf-Hühnlein-Marsch" was also primarily a march (NSKK-Hörnermarsch Nr. 1) and secondarily a song. It was recorded five times, twice as an instrumental (for radio and Telefunken), twice with two strophes sung (for Telefunken and Lindström) and once with refrain only (for Grammophon).

Cheers and Happy New Year,
Ivan

Based on the Priebergs handbook, I managed to find out that the NSKK had at least two more songs with words. They were called ,,Wir sind das schwarzbraune Kraftfahrkorps, genannt das NSKK (T: Arthur Tschirner),, and ,,NSKK-Lied (Theodor Oppermann),,

They weren't recorded though - as far as is known - and that's what you've been looking for: "various recordings of NSKK songs". The NSKK had more songs than the few mentioned so far, but that's a whole new topic. When it comes to the recorded songs, the list is very short.

Cheers,
Ivan

You're welcome. If you're interested in what was (suggested to be) sang in the NSKK, try finding a copy of their songbook Singen im NSKK (1936). But note that - as was usual in various organisation's songbooks - the majority of the songs aren't really related to the organisation (they're just popular patriotic and party songs), but nevertheless, you'll still find additional NSKK-related material there (their motorcyclist songs for example). You can find the songbook's contents in Prieberg's Handbuch, on pages 6635-6636.

Furthermore, in Sturm- und Kampflieder für Front und Heimat (1941), besides the original lyrics to "Adolf-Hühnlein-Marsch", you'll find the lyrics to "Wir sind vom NSKK", plus "Wir sind in der Motor-SA" and "Lied der Motorstürme", two songs of the Motor-SA, the predecessor of the NSKK.

Cheers,
Ivan

You're welcome again. By the way, for easier future browsing, I've expanded the topic to include all NSKK music, instead of starting separate threads for the rest of their compositions and recordings.

Below is the list of all (known) recorded NSKK music, both radio (non-commercial) and commercial (sold on records). Since the wartime radio recording lists appear to be lost, it's possible that a few more tracks were recorded in this period (Sept. 1939 - May 1945) that are still unknown. However, older political marches were only seldom-recorded during the war.

Part 1 - Recordings by NSKK bands:

Musikzug der NSKK-Motorstandarte 28, Berlin
Leitung: Musikzugführer Karl Extra

Lindström, 12 October 1935

Bi 2373 | GO-27150 | Panzerwagen-Marsch (Extra)
Bi 2374 | GO-27150 | Marsch der braunen Sturmkolonnen (Knoth)

Musikzug der NSKK-Motorgruppe Sachsen, Dresden
Leitung: Musikzugführer Heinz Elber

Rundfunk, 18 February 1938

42492 | Mit vereinten Kräften (Milius) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch Nr. 2
42493 | NSKK marschiert (Milius) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch Nr. 3
42494 | Heil Motorstandarte (Milius) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch Nr. 4
42495 | Rheinwacht (Milius) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch Nr. 5
42496 | Adolf-Hühnlein-Marsch (Ihne) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch Nr. 1
42497 | Unter den Sturmstandarten des NSKK (Preißler) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch
42498 | Im Gleichschritt des NSKK (Preißler) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch Nr. 7
42499 | Signalhornmarsch des NSKK (Preißler) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch
42500 | Panzerwagenlied (Preißler) * NSKK-Fanfarenmarsch Nr. 9

Telefunken, (ca. June) 1938

51169 | T 6135 | Heil Motorstandarte (Milius) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch Nr. 4
51170 | T 6137 | Heil Motor-HJ (Preißler) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch Nr. 6
51171 | T 6138 | Rheinwacht (Milius) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch Nr. 5
51172 | T 6136 | Panzerwagenlied (Preißler) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch Nr. 8
51173 | T 6138 | NSKK marschiert (Milius) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch Nr. 3
51174 | T 6137 | Im Gleichschritt des NSKK (Preißler) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch Nr. 7
51175 | T 6134 | Adolf-Hühnlein-Marsch (Ihne) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch Nr. 1 ** Gesang: Männerchor
51176 | T 6134 | Adolf-Hühnlein-Marsch (Ihne) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch Nr. 1
51177 | T 6135 | Mit vereinten Kräften (Milius) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch Nr. 2
51178 | T 6136 | Panzerwagenlied (Preißler) * NSKK-Fanfarenmarsch Nr. 9

Note 1: The titles of these two recording sessions seem identical apart from a few of Preißler's marches - "Unter den Sturmstandarten des NSKK" and "Signalhornmarsch des NSKK" in the radio session, and "Heil Motor-HJ" and "Panzerwagenlied" (the horn march) in the Telefunken session; it should be checked whether those were actually four different compositions or just diferent titles of two (or three) compositions.
Note 2: The bandleader was credited only for the radio session; the same man leading the band in the Telefunken session is only my assumption. Those familiar with Mr Kaiser's website will find Willy Milius credited there as the bandleader for the Telefunken session, but that's only an incorrect guess (Milius was actually based in Austria).
Note 3: The designation of "Panzerwagenlied" the fanfare march may be misleading; it was not the 9th fanfare march of the NSKK, as the designation suggests, but the 9th march of the NSKK, which was a fanfare march (it's the only known NSKK fanfare march); a clearer designation would be NSKK-(Fanfaren-)Marsch Nr. 9, and for the others, NSKK-(Hörner-)Marsch Nr. 8, and so on.

Musikzug der NSKK-Motorgruppe Berlin
Leitung: Musikzugführer Arnold Ebel

Lindström, 12 August 1938

Bi 3283 | GO-27744 | Adolf-Hühnlein-Marsch (Ihne) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch Nr. 1 ** Gesang: Schöneberger Liedertafel und Chor der Rheingauschule, Berlin
Bi 3284 | GO-27747 | Heil Motorstandarte (Milius) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch Nr. 4
Bi 3285 | GO-27745 | NSKK marschiert (Milius) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch Nr. 3
Bi 3286 | GO-27746 | Rheinwacht (Milius) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch Nr. 5
Bi 3287 | GO-27744 | Motorgruppe Berlin (Ebel) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch
Bi 3288 | GO-27745 | Die deutsche Kaisergarde (Voigt) * Armeemarsch II, 208
Bi 3289 | GO-27746 | Sedan-Marsch (Lange) * Armeemarsch II, 45a
Bi 3290 | GO-27747 | Panzerwagenlied (Preißler) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch Nr. 8

Rundfunk, 24 January 1941

_____ | Motorgruppe Berlin (Ebel) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch

Note: The vocal groups singing the "Adolf-Hühnlein-Marsch" weren't credited on the record label, but were in the recording list. The two choirs were old associates of Arnold Ebel's, with whom he performed on concerts as a civilian, before joining the NSKK.

Part 2 - Recordings of NSKK music by non-NSKK bands:

Musikkorps des Panzer-Regiments 5, Wünsdorf
Leitung: Obermusikmeister Friedrich Täger
Gesang: Heyn-Quartett

Grammophon, 8 June 1938

7887-½ GR 8 | C 2785 | Adolf-Hühnlein-Marsch (Ihne) * NSKK-Hörnermarsch Nr. 1

Blasorchester
Leitung: Bruno Seidler-Winkler

Electrola, (ca. June) 1939

ORA 4113-2 | EG 6920 | Unser NSKK (Kormann)

Tanzorchester Hans Georg Schütz (Die lustigen Dorfmusikanten)
Gesang: Heyn-Quartett

Grammophon, (ca. July) 1939

8315 GD 9 | C 2971 | Schwarze Hosen, braune Hemden (Jäger)

Thank you very much! It has become much more convenient! By the way, it would be nice to set up songs and marches in a similar way in the future for RAD.

The majority of the RAD recordings were made by Niel and can be found listed in his topic. But there were some other (commercial and non-commercial) recordings (by Niel's and other bands) that were made. Not much though. I actually worked on a master list of all military recordings that I planned to publish here, but I had a mishap with my PC and lost hours of hard work, so I never finished it. Maybe sometime in the future.

Note: several posts dealing with the SS song "Motorstaffellied" have been split off into a topic of their own.
