Re: Was der SA-Mann singt
Thank you very much for sharing the scans of these song sheets, there are many song names that I didn't see before.
Does the song Freiheitslied in this scan have something to do with Freiheitsmarsch (Schmidt)?

Re: Was der SA-Mann singt
Thanks for sharing, F.
The back page of the "Horst-Wessel-Lied" sheet has some particularly interesting info: the depoliticised version of "Panzerwagenlied" (Ob's stürmt...) credited as SA singing material and "Ein Volk - ein Reich" credited as the official Austrian SA march.
Note: To avoid a possible confusion, it should be emphasised that this post-Anschluss Austrian sheet music series had nothing to do with the previously discussed German medley from early 1930s. Therefore, the initial post has been split into a topic of its own.
Hello, Jerard
Please take a closer look at the scan: "Freiheitslied" by A. Thomas was based on the melody of "Zu Mantua in Banden" (by L. Knebelsberger).
One must be aware that at the time of the Nazi struggle, seizure of power, Anschluss, etc., there were many words, slogans and titles constantly used in their daily life and publications. Hence the similar/identical titles of compositions, books etc. There were many "Freiheitslieder" (liberty songs) created back then, as well as throughout German history. Same thing with marches. If you take a look, for example, at Hofmeister's catalogues of the XIX century, you'll see a number of marches entitled "Freiheitsmarsch": by Strauß, Diethe, Hetz, Czibulka...
Cheers,
Ivan

Re: Was der SA-Mann singt [sheet music series]
.....another example from the 'Was der SA-Mann singt' series....this is S.A.5, "Horst-Wessel-Lied"....
Note that whilst it has the same numerical sequence to the sepia version noted above, this coloured artwork and the list of songs clearly differentiate it from one another...
