I'm surprised no one has commented it yet but.. "Me-109-Lied" is indeed a Swiss march song. Source: http://tinyurl.com/jmkfx8n
(I had to use a tinyurl because the full link randomly would cut itself off at the end, nonetheless this one works very well - it's a link to a metapedia page)

Please don't use the Metapedia (or Wikipedia) as a source here. They are far from reliable (and when it comes to the Third Reich / military music, they are especially worthless). There was no reply yet because most members here wait before replying until they have a solid source.

Me-109-Lied (In den Lüften zieht dahin...)
This song aroused my interest in connection with which I would like to know if there is a WWII version? or was it created exclusively after the war?

There was some talk that it's a Swiss song, but I don't know if that's a fact. I've merged your post with the old thread dealing with this song.Alarm_Uboat wrote: ↑10 Apr 2023, 16:53This song aroused my interest in connection with which I would like to know if there is a WWII version? or was it created exclusively after the war?
There are no known period German sources mentioning such a piece.

Oh thank you Ivan. I had to search carefully then I probably would have found this discussion
Re: Me-109-Lied (In den Lüften zieht dahin...)
Finally some info, thanks to Mr Kaiser's record list (I forgot to check it): The song was created by Josef Gohr, a seldom-known German composer active in 1960s/1970s (whether he wrote it for the Swiss Air Force, I don't know). It was recorded in early 1960s by Luftwaffenmusikkorps 1 and a soldiers' chorus under Wilhelm Siebertz (he led the band from 1958 to 1964), and was released as a single, coupled with Gerhard Winkler's "Starfighter-Marsch" (1961). The duration of the recording was 2:58, two verses sung. The version spread on the internet, lasting about 2:04 (with two verses sung), is likely the same recording, only incomplete (the intro was clearly cut-off there).

Thank you Ivan. Now at least we know the whole point. Tell me, do you know any wartime songs dedicated to individual aircraft? Only come to my mind (Ju 88, and songs dedicated to "Stuka").

Re: Me-109-Lied (In den Lüften zieht dahin...)
From LP cover "Deutsche Soldatenlieder und Märsche" by FBS Frank Brandenburger (1976):
Die Jagdflieger pfiffen es alle, das Lied von der kleinen ME-109. Kaum jemand jedoch kannte den Text dieses Liedes, das 1944 auf einem Flugplatz bei Oschatz in Sachsen entstand und nicht mehr in die Liederbücher einging.
Re: Me-109-Lied (In den Lüften zieht dahin...)
Thank you, F., but this Frank Brandenburger guy, whoever that is, and his amateur records with made-up track titles and no background info don't exactly inspire confidence. This song, as was already stated, was created by someone active in 1960s/1970s and its lyrics are rather atypical for a WWII song. None of this means that this guy necessarily made that info up or was misinformed, but I wouldn't trust such a source. He also claims it's an "original recording", on the very cover of that LP, even though it's clearly modern (and not the only modern one on that compilation).

Ivan
