Latvian collaborationist music

#1

Post by e.polis » 19 Oct 2004, 00:26

[Several threads dealing with Latvian collaborationist music have been merged and renamed by the host, Ivan Ž.]

I have three records (LPs) produced in the 1960s of Latvian war songs and marches including the 15 WSS march. They were my late fathers, 15 WSS veteran, and I have copied them on to CD. My Latvian is as good as my Eskimo, so I can not translate the song titles, however if anyone is interested then I could post or PM the details.

Hello -

I would suggest contacting the fellow who runs this website: http://www.lacplesis.com/

As you can see, he is very knowledgable and his website is superb.

Best regards,

Being new to this site I found my website listed: http://www.lacplesis.com

I have 3 records of WWII songs sang by the Latvian Legion. The singers are ex Legionaires living in Canada in the early 70's as a fund raiser for "DAUGAVAS VANAGI". If there is interest I can upload them to my website.

Thanks very much!

Info please: the song "Mirdzot Skepiem" has the same melody as the song of the Serbian Volunteer Corps (SDK) called "Na suncu oružje nam blista".

Does anyone know the origin of this melody?

As I see it, you probably are right.
There is no acknowledgement of composer.

The songs are excellent, thanks very much one more time. I can hear some German melodies again, such as "Lili Marleen" ("Tur Cedelgema draugs") and "Infanterie, du bist die Krone aller Waffen" ("Urlaubseine").

Cheers,
Ivan

For the ones who don't have the book Latviešu Legionāri (from Andrejs Edvīns FELDMANIS and Arvīds KALUPNIEKS and Rolands KOVTUŅENKO) there is a CD with 24 songs of the latvian volunteers (folklore and SS songs).

For ekleers, I'm interested by the words of the songs you have.

Phil.

what about the songs themselves? Any chance you could post them up or send them to us? The ones you tried to send me Ekleers never came through for some reason.

Thanks.

Hello AAA, Thanks very much for this link. I really like these Latvian military songs. And the quality is much better than the songs that I have. Is there a way to download them from that site? It wont let me do that.
