Not sure about that, but the 'World at War' never credited any songs they played, and doubt they'd do it on the DVD. In fact, most docuementaries don't.

The World at War

Post by ikon » 13 Mar 2006, 12:27

Hello everybody.

I'm new to this forum and i wanted to say that i'm amazed by the wide range of topics you cover and by the unbelievable detailed and vast knowledge of the members. It's really a great forum.

I was wondering if anybody can help me identifying this song... Does anybody know it's name and maybe where i can find it? Apparently it's an Afrika Korp song but i can't.... trace it. The clip is taken from the world at war.

Thank you very much

Soviet parade in 1941

#21

Post by Sven-Eric » 09 Jun 2006, 21:04

I have a question that may be a bit unusual. In the series "The World at War" by Thames Television in the 1970s, episode 5 is about the German invasion of the USSR in 1941. About 20 mns of the programme a scene is shown from the May Day military parade at the Red Square in 1941. At that time they play a Russian military song. The song reappears again about 15 mns later when showing people digging tank graves near Moscow. Has anyone seen this episode and can identify the name of the song?

Regards,
Sven-Eric

Hey in the BBC world at war documentaries, there is one fantastic song in the Barbarossa documentrary. We are shown the military parade on may 1, 1941 in Moscow and in the background an awesome russian song is heard.

I have not been able to locate it. Anyone know what song it is?

Finally, after almost a year I have found a link to YouTube where this song is played. Hope someone can identify it for me. Some Russian friends says it must be an old one.

Edit: Finally it is identified. The title is: Боевое дело знают роты
Music: Isaac Dunaevsky, Lyrics: Alexander Gatov

World at war TV doc. Military march?

#24

Post by uboat » 19 Sep 2007, 20:07

Hi new to forum
can anyone help me to identify two pieces of music which are played on the 'world at world' Barbarrossa edition(5) . The first song is played at the beginning after the theme tune and starts ein volk ein reich ein fuehrer, wether this intro is the title of the song or not i'm not sure. The other song is played near the end showing german soldiers being taken into captivity. I have noticed other queries identical to mine but so far I have drawn a blank. Hope you can help me with the titles.

First tune is "Wenn die Soldaten" which dates to the 1860s or 70s. Not sure what the one is at the end.

The one that plays in the beginning is "Wenn die Soldaten" as mentioned, and the other is "Wenn wir marschieren" followed at the very end of the program by a faint refrain of the first song.

I'm not sure what the title is of the actual film footage march music where the german soldiers are marching through the crowded streets. I've heard the piece played bofore in a documentary about Hitler's 50th birthday celebration. It's played by small SS band outside the Reich's Chancelry as Hitler emerges and then leaves by motorcade to review the massive military parade. I haven't been able to identify the name of that piece.

In the 1970's documentary series "The world at war", there is a clip of film showing German troops parading past the Arc De Triomphe in Paris after the victory in 1940. Can anyone tell me the name of the marching tune being played?

It was also played in the final parade scenes in the 1930's German documentary "March to the Fuhrer"

Hello,

It is the old march "Preußens Gloria" by Gottfried Piefke.

Cheers,
Ivan
