I'm sorry, if somebody has posted these photos already... but I assume that's also Niel with his band?

Not posted, but the concert itself was mentioned on page 10 (Heerlen, Royal Theatre, 27 April 1942). A nice find - thanks for sharing!

"Erika" - any detailed information about the song?

Post by D-General » 09 Jul 2021 04:28

Hello, I am looking on doing an educational video on the song "Erika"

I understand that it was written by Herms Niel in the 1930s, but I would like to ask whether anyone knows about any more detailed information on the song, like what inspired Herms Niel to create it, perhaps the exact date when it was created, and other such fine details. Thank you very much, and once again, have a nice day to you all

See also the post about the modern distortion of "Erika" viewtopic.php?f=81&t=94321&start=210#p2214333

For additional info on the song, search the same topic (just type "Erika").

Hello D-General,

Please also take a look at my post viewtopic.php?f=81&t=94321&start=285#p2304095 This article says something about the genesis of the song. However, there is nothing more to add to Ivan's remarks.

Best regards,

Wir fahren gegen Engelland!

Post by Ivan Ž. » 30 Aug 2021 15:09

A naval photo booklet named after Niel's (at the time new) hit composition "Wir fahren gegen Engelland" (Matrosenlied), including a brief text on the origin of his previous hit, "Erika", and the new song's lyrics.

Herms Niel - denazification

Post by GregSingh » 10 Sep 2021 10:53

Associated Press reports from Germany:
June 17th, 1949
The well-known Nazi composer Hermann Nielebock, called Herms Niel, was absent on Wednesday (June 15th, 1949) when the denazification committee for cultural workers in Lower Saxony classified him as Group IV "Followers".
July 3rd, 1949
In Hannover, Hermann Nielebock, known under the name Herms Niel as the composer of the military marches of the Third Reich and the song “Wir fahren gegen Engelland", was by the denazification court categorized as "non-guilty sympathizer" and was sentenced only to litigation costs amounting to 1,000 marks. Nielebock, who is now a farm worker was unable to take part in the proceedings, because he didn't have the money to travel .
