...I will admit that I had this for quite a while before I realised that the name of Herms Niel was present on it...not a postcard...just a small plain thin card....was it even recorded onto schellack?

...there are a number of Herms Niel songcards, printed by 'Wilke & Co.' that appear in 'large' (as this example) and standard size, all colourful...really attractive to look at...

According to Kaiser, the song was recorded - Musikkorps des Luftgau-Kommandos 11. As far as we know, one version was made for radio. (But this may not be accurate as Kaiser's list is quite erroneous). The first two stanzas were recorded in the radio version.

1. Als Kavalier zog ich hinaus, totschick und ganz auf Draht.
Auf Kammer wurde schnell daraus ein schmucker Feldsoldat!

I was recently surprised to discover that Niel performed in my home town as well, which was at the time annexed by Hungary. It was part of his Hungarian tour in September 1942 (see also the Budapest post). According to the press report, Herms Niel and his band gave two extraordinarily successful concerts in Novi Sad, in overcrowded venues.
