Leros

#1

Post by pittaway » 03 Dec 2014, 20:59

Greetings from Durban. I am planning a third edition of my LRDG RHODESIA book and a quarter of the book is on the Aegean; Battle of Leros. However virtually no Allied pics survived as it was a massive defeat for the British. Please does anyone have even one FJ pic/scan from Leros? Brandenburg Regt is of great interest as many of its members came from Namibia (South-West Africa) as they all spoke English. any help will be appreciated, thanks, Jonathan on [email protected] and http://www.dandy.co.za see attached Signal, JAN 44 edition and pic of South-West Africans before heading to Germany. (most joined Brandenburgers)

Hi pittaway,

Are you sure ".....many of its (the Brandenburger Regt.) members came from Namibia (South-West Africa) as they all spoke English."?

I have no doubt that there were likely a few Brandenburgers originally from SWA, but many?

Incidentally, the only claimed Brandenburger raid on South Africa seems to lack both detail and any verification from either the German or Allied side.

Cheers,

Sid.

Many did; Helmut von Leipzig KC, gave me the photo at the top, still lives in Namibia, told me many of the men went to Brandenburg. Furthermore Lt 'Kudu' Frey, Von Koenen, etc all came from there. send me your email address and I will send you more info. I am on [email protected]

Hi Pittaway:

I am working with an article for a magazine about the Brandenburgers. To complete this article I am looking for help with the pictures, and I hope someone here could help me out.
I am looking for pictures of the Brandenburgers that we can buy out and reprint in the article, and if anyone could help me out, or point me in the right direction I would be very happy.

Please answer here if you got an idea - or email me direct on: [email protected]
