Ottoman Iron Crescent/ Gallipoli Star - 1915
Ottoman Iron Crescent/ Gallipoli Star - 1915
Hello, i have an Ottoman Gallipoli Star from the year 1915 (arabic date: ١٣٣٣= 1333=1915) and I wanted to ask if this is a real one. The order has 7 solves on its back and is 6.8 mm long (from left to right). And for how much could I sell this order (I wont sell it, just to know)? Thank you and I hope
you can help me.
you can help me.

Nice original 2nd Cl., certainly worth 120/200 Euros retail.... (hard to tell if the ribbon is correct- should be red with white side stripes.)

thank you for your answer.
Re: Ottoman Iron Crescent/ Gallipoli Star - 1915
Allow me to remark that there was no "second class"; this decoration came in one class only.
The star was to be worn on the right breast of the uniform. The ribbon that represented the decoration was to be worn in the buttonhole or on a ribbon bar only.
Wear of the full-size star mounted on a medal bar was a not uncommon, but unofficial practice. The stars worn in this way were special private-purchase pieces or (more often) converted pinback stars.

HLP is correct, the ringed version is not a 2nd Cl., just a unofficial "wearing" version. For years was called a 2nd Cl. here in the states, I forgot that was incorrect. Sorry bout that!

I agree, this is a nice one. The enamel work on these early pieces is stunning.

Hi,
1.The medal in the first photo is not original at all. There are no loops attached to the original ones there are only pins.
2. There is only one class.

Demir

If there is only one class, what is this one?

An private-purchase luxury version made by Brüder Schneider of Vienna.matthew4108 wrote:If there is only one class, what is this one?
There is no obvious explanation for the use of white enamel for the star's rays. Maybe this was used to symbolize it being a non-combatants' award (which came with a white ribbon), but that is pure speculation on my part.

Pleasure to see you again Mr. Lovecraft. Been too long.
White enameled rays are but one unique feature on the above piece but like you, I offer no explanation past the general admiration of it.
I'd imagine there were more than one Gallipoli Battle non-combat veterans but this piece above is the only one of its kind out there. It also leads me to believe, it might be a special class of this award but again- opinion only, no proof.
cheers

So does anyone know for sure if this is a real or fake? Here are a few more details.
