Found a Nazi gold medal

#1

Post by AutoHax0r » 28 Dec 2017, 22:49

Hi,

Just found this Nazi medal whilst cleaning my grandfather's basement. I have no idea if it's real or not, but it looks like gold. Opinions anyone

NSDAP 25 Yr. Long Service medal.... not real gold...... the quality of the enamel, details of the eagle, swastika, and "rays" look very suspect to me....In my opinion it's not original.

I'd recommend to check it with your local goldsmith

Not original.
Eagle = Vulture, and 0-Karat Gold.

This is a rather poor copy, the ribbon is also not original. Some pictures of an original for comparison

The medal in the box seems to have a different ribbon to the other medal shown - but is the same pattern as AutoHax0r's medal ribbon.
Note the difference in the stripes.
One pattern has a solid gold stripe with a line on either side.
The other has a gold stripe bordered by two thin lines and internally divided by one thin line.
Are there two official ribbon patterns?

AutoHax0r's medal in comparison is certainly not as well pressed out .

In fact there are 4 types of ribbon known. The reason for this is not known. There are sugestions for the use, but I am unconvinced.

Interesting posts! Looking for info on the ribbons I came across this link and possible error in the different classes. 1st and 3rd seem to have the wrong description. http://www.axishistory.com/axis-nations ... -the-nsdap

Note the black outline on the cross and swastika.
There are numerous examples of this feature.

Is this a difference between different official makers, or official and fake?

More detailed pics here

Curiously, the black "outline " seems to come and go according to angle/lighting.

As Christopher says it's a fake, probably by Souval of Vienna.

The people at War Relics seem to think its OK.
What exactly do you think is wrong with it?
Perhaps you could indicate specific errors.
I'm sure all newbies like me would be appreciative.
Cheers
