This may sound like an odd question, but one I have been curious about for a while now. Were their any higher formation commanders (division, corps, army) who were not recipients of the Knight's Cross? I'm not really talking about GHQ-types or reserve formation commanders but front line types.
It seems every time I read an article or book about a battle the commander on the German side is RK recipient. To me an interesting case is Geyr von Schweppenburg who went from a panzerdivision to panzerkorps to panzergruppe commander and never getting oakleaves (although he was awarded the Knight's Cross). This is about the closest I could come. I'm an obvious amateur at this, but were there any frontline division, corps, army commanders who did not have the RK? If so, who was the highest ranking or highest formation led?
