Thought I might start this off by discussing your favorite medals.

Lets hear from everyone and possibly post photos.

My favourite would be the East Front medal- Its not the most fancy or best looking nor that rare. But it means something to me.

I got one for about $50 (picked it up at a rumage sale)- it was in "fairly good" condition but also came with the original envelope with a littile of the cellophane still in there.

Panzervernichtungsabzeichen

I like the Panzervernichtungsabzeichen best. Have pictures of Friedrich Anding and Günther Viezenz with their right arm "overdecorated" by such badges. Should like to see a color picture of a KC winner with many Panzervernichtungsabzeichen, specially with a golden one. Have never seen that. Here are Bodo Spranz with 4 silver badges.

Medals.....

From my very small collection of Finnish medals I would choose the Cross of Liberty as my personal favourite. If I could choose freely, I'd say that most of the unit specific commemorative medals for the Finnish armed forces during ww2 are some of my absolute favourites.

Not exactly a medal, but the favourite in my collection is a Narvik shield. This means some to me as I am from Norway!
Must say I like the Luftwaffe badges too, but haven`t got any (yet!)

Marcus,

Thats a really interesting design. I do not know a lot about foreign decorations. What is the name of that? What was it issued for?

WC Stump - WOW. That is an interesting concept. Are you saying ALL the reference books are incorrect when they say the badge was awarded....even Detlev Niemann's book?

It's the "Badge of Honor for service on the Eastern Front".

William,

Prehaps you would like to start a new thead on the Army Balloon Observer's Badge? It would be interesting to read more about the controversy around that badge.
