Re: Unidentified Medals, Decorations, Badges in wear
Thank you for the additional information HPL2008
What is the wing below the combat clasp of Hauptmann Heinz Schumann? A foreign Pilot's Badge?
And is it a Spanish Cross below the German Cross?

He is wearing Italian pilot wings. The other decoration looks like a Spanish Cross to me, as well.AlifRafikKhan wrote: What is the wing below the combat clasp of Hauptmann Heinz Schumann? A foreign Pilot's Badge?

Thank you HPL2008.
Can someone ID the decorations in the medal bar belong to Hauptmann Ernst Grunau? Also the red cross below the Iron Cross?

I forgot to write that the above awards are from the funeral pillow of Vizeadmiral Bernhard Rogge.AlifRafikKhan wrote:Looks like Panzertruppenabzeichen der Legion Condor to me
So could it be the Flotten-Kriegsabzeichen?
He also recieved the Kriegsabzeichen für Hilfskreuzer mit Brillanten (left on the photo, he was the only recipient), so it is also possible that the award pointed by the arrow is the regular Kriegsabzeichen für Hilfskreuzer (although it doesn't look like it to me)?

Neck order:
Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes.
Left lapel:
top: Kyfffhäuser-Verdienstkreuz (1st or second class, hard to tell)
bottom: some shooting award of the Kyffhäuserbund
(Note that these are decorations of the post-war incarnation of the Kyffhäuserbund.)
Left breast:
top: Nahkampfspange in Gold
medal bar, upper row, from left to right: Bundesverdienstkreuz am Bande, Eisernes Kreuz II. Klasse, Kriegsverdienstkreuz II. Klasse mit Schwertern, Ostmedaille.
medal bar, lower row, far left: Europa-Kreuz of the CEAC. Don't know about the others; apparently all civilian and/or foreign.
pinback decorations, top row: Verwundetenabzeichen in Gold, Eisernes Kreuz I. Klasse, Panzerkampfabzeichen in Bronze.
pinback decorations, bottom: unidentified
Right breast:
Deutsches Kreuz in Gold.
His WW2-era decarations are all in the "denazified" 1957er versions.

Hello i was wondering about the "thing" on general Trierenbergs Band zum EK II. Its not a Spange and its not the Ehrenblatt?
Re: Unidentified Medals, Decorations, Badges in wear
It's the Ritterkreuz des königlichen Hausordens von Hohenzollern mit Schwertern [Knight's Cross of the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern with Swords].offizier1916 wrote:Hello i was wondering about the "thing" on General Trierenbergs Band zum EK II. Its not a Spange and its not the Ehrenblatt?
(As a peacetime decoration, this order was worn on a white ribbon with three white stripes; as a war decoration - as seen here- it was worn on the same ribbon as the Iron Cross.)

Re: Unidentified Medals, Decorations, Badges in wear
Thx hpl. But in theory he had the right to wear this cross around his neck with the RK? Or was this just allowed for the PLM and RK (like Rommel)
Re: Unidentified Medals, Decorations, Badges in wear
Do not confuse this with the Third Reich-era inventions of the Knight's Cross of the EK and KVK, whose terminology was a breach with time-honored traditions: Traditionally, a Knight's Cross was the lowest class of an order and worn on a ribbon. The next grade was usually the Officer's Cross - worn as a pinback award - and only then the Commander's grade as a neck decoration.offizier1916 wrote:Thx hpl. Re: Unidentified Medals, Decorations, Badges in wear
Thx hpl. I was a little confused about thr different Ordensstufen. As you wrote "Ritterkreuz Hohenzollern" i automatically had the second highest WW1 Medal in my mind, worn around the neck.
