Greetings
I am a new member of the forum and I would like some insight on a piece of history I own.

I can't ID it, but this is definitely not a DKiS or DKiG. The outline and proportions don't match at all, and it's on the wrong side of the tunic for a DK.Foxhovnd wrote: ↑29 Dec 2023, 00:04It looks like a Deutsches Cross in SilverGWorldmann wrote: ↑27 Nov 2023, 18:41Hello! Weinknecht was indeed a recipient of the DKiS, but it's on his right pocket (as it should be).

Re: Unidentified Medals, Decorations, Badges in wear
Hello, I looked into any other 8 pointed awards and the only one I could find was the Medal for Gallantry and Merit for Members of the Eastern Peoples, I couldn't find any documentation about whether Weinknecht was awarded this but it's possible that the documentation was lost as it would have been awarded after July 1944, which is when he was awarded his Iron Cross, a month later in August 1944 he surrendered or was captured in an encirclement. As far as I'm aware the circumstances of this award allowed ethnic Germans who had served/commanded in a unit made up of soldiers from Eastern Territories, I don't know the ethnic makeup of his unit(s) so this is just speculation based off of the fact that it's POSSIBLE he could have been eligible, medal shape and other pictures I've found of the medal, it looks to be a similar size and is worn in the same place. Compare to picture of Erwein von Thun und Hohenstein, his MGMMEP is on the left side of the tunic underneath everything else, he also sports a silver German Cross on the other side of the tunic, providing a good size comparisonGWorldmann wrote: ↑27 Nov 2023, 18:41Hello! Sorry, but no; this is clearly not the Eastern Peoples' Decoration, either.
It's some foreign award (Italian, Hungarian, Bulgarian, Romanian Finnish...), but which one...?

I did come across earlier that he was given the Order of the Crown of Romania, but the shape doesn't look the same to me, though it can have what looks like 8 points? For me it's between what I said in my first post and that, but the original picture from GWorldmann is kind of hard to see, for me at least.

I have this unknown piece here, two crossed skis. There is a safety pin on the back.
Does this perhaps belong to the ski hunters?
Thanks for your help!
