The condition of my newly obtained EK1

#1

Post by E.Matthew » 21 Jun 2018, 17:47

Hey everybody, I am very new to the collecting scene and this forum and I was wondering if I could have a bit of help. I recently ordered this EK1 and aside from the white stains around the top and corners of this medal, it seems like it is in good shape. I was wondering, what are the white stains around the corners of this medal and is it cause for alarm or just normal wear and tear? Should I clean it or leave it as it is? Thanks a lot guys!

P.S. I do not possess a camera that is good enough to get the detail of the iron cross and so I used some of the photos of it from the store I bought it from.

Can't tell much from the photos provided, need to see the back side to tell much of anything. The white carp is from someone improperly cleaning it. Try WD-40 and scrub with a soft toothbrush, concentrate where the white is..... Most should come off... Good luck.

WD-40 is too harsh .... I never use it any more ..... bad results .
Too strong of a solvent component in it with penetrating/creapping oil ! Over time can create some paint lifting .
Q-tip and vasaline far better - a bit more work .

I don't know of any Third Reich manufacturer that produced Iron Crosses with a 1939 date in that fashion

It stands a chance but as stated, photos of the reverse of the cross are needed for us to really help you further.
