Opinions on Lappland shield
Opinions on Lappland shield
I recieved this shield today. Is it any chance that it is original? No crisis if it’s not. I know that some of these were made in the field.

Simple really. This one looks to be made out of Fanta can. If it was to be based on coke, then it would be fake as Germans did not have access to Coca-Cola.

The above has been written 'tongue in cheek' (for those looking for an explanation - there's no viable way to prove the above creation but I strongly suspect it being a reproduction. Or as they say in Cleveland - C'mon man!!)

As I first posted, but willing to learn as I posted, why would the Germans *in the field* do this?lol

BUT . . . Wait!!
What if . . . .?
https://www.invaluable.com/auction-lot/ ... 3c54dc29f5The shields were produced in the field, and continued to be awarded by Bohme after the unit''s surrender to Norwegian forces. Many were produced in prisoner-of-war camps, accounting for the crudeness of this and many other examples.
Examples of field made Lappland Shields.

Asmoyg's shield is not looking good IMHO.

Re: Opinions on Lappland shield
They were some field made shields for sure. But like you said, this one does not appear to be one of them. In fact, it takes some imagination to think its a shield, IMO.
As a side note: Your third linked website can and should be only used as an example of what to stay away from. Not just the shield in question but the whole thing.
