Ernst Röhm dagger, fake or not?

#1

Post by D-General » 04 Sep 2019, 11:01

Hello, I would like to ask whether this Ernst Röhm dagger I found for sale is fake or not. Thanks.
(P.S. Technically this is an Award since it is distributed as a sort of medal, so I think it seems fit that it falls under this category in the forum)

No question the dagger itself is original, it's the Röhm dedication that's on the blade that matters really. It certainly looks good from the pictures, almost too good. I can't make out the maker, so that would help.
I do know there are many well done fake inscriptions on real daggers. I can't really give you a firm yes or no, but it does look good to me.....
I'd post this on the German Dagger forum.

Thanks for your response John. I wasn’t able to attach a zoomed in photo of the maker label since AHF only allows you to post 4 photos. But the maker is “Plumacher Richard & Sohn” from Solingen.

I distrust of originality this SA dagger for several reasons, not only by the blade

All Röhm signed SA and SS Daggers were made by Carl Eickhorn, Solingen

Rohm daggers were made by Eickhorn, E.P. & S., F. Dick, Henckels, Wusthof, Herder, and Aesculap. Unfortunately NOT by the maker on your dagger....

I see, thanks for your help guys. The dagger is already sold though, I feel sorry for whoever bought it. Anyways, have a nice day!
