Hello,

I have never seen a solid black 1939 wound. I have seen hollow, and solid 1936 (Spanish Condor) wounds.

The black wound badge in my collection is stamped...but I have seen cheesy copies that were solid.

Yes, Bill is correct. There is no record on how many produced, however there is a record of awarded, or issued pieces. 182 Black pieces were awarded during the Spanish Civil war of 1936. Also, I believe the "left over" issued pieces were also awarded in place of the 1939 piece, however that is just an opinion, and I have also read this is other references.

Hello,

Not only stamped WB's,there are(few) with solid body painted with black semi gloss enamel,i have one of these, an unmarked late war production from the Steinhauer & Lück firm.

On the market there are fakes with solid construction painted black and maker marked "30", the known cast copy now is painted black.

I have to disagree with Mr. Stump that only 24 firms make the WB during the war, definetly more of 24 firms produced them but i don't know for sure how many.

This conclusion has been made from the sure originals that i know and if i plus the other that appearing to be original from different manufacturers, the total is more than 24 firms.

We know the "old" references could be wrong,ie:L/58 mark, etc, therefore nothing is a fact.

The wound badge is a common award and zounds of them distributed, but the wound badge subject is more complicated and not so simple, especialy the "Spanish" WB's.

Silvers run from $30 to $55. Look before you buy.
