This is straightforward

Post by Matt Gibbs » 02 Dec 2003 12:45

When the badge was instituted there over 100,000 members, but out of all these members, only c.23,000 had the required UNBROKEN length of service [of party membership]....

For someone who had the length of service but decided to leave the party a couple of months before the badge was instituted, tough luck, no badge.

Same for someone who had the length of service BUT left for a time and then decided to rejoin, probably again, tough luck, no badge.

The key is they had to be ACTIVE members when the award was instituted and have the UNBROKEN service record. This strict requirement meant that only about 23% of the members qualified at the time.

Badges were later issued as Honour badges for recipients who had performed special tasks or other such things for the party, which do not fit into the criteria I have mentioned.

Hope this explains better.

There is no central or complete list of recipients to date. Most have come from Gau lists as well as the DAL etc.

Per the attached source Walter Turza received the GPB on 9th November 1944. Pictures of his large GPB are also attached.
