Background
Hi,
On a personal level, this was the father of my old German teacher in New Zealand where I grew up. She moved to NZ in the early 50s.
She wrote a book about her life "Strawberries with the Führer" where she gives a lot of background to this man. Undoubtably it is a personal memoir and difficult for her to accept his role in Nazi Germany, but she tries to give a balanced account of his life.
It is an excellent book about a child growing up within the Nazi regime and the consequences of that lifestyle.
Cheers
Steve

VERY interesting. I will have to get that book. Just did a Google search, found a website on the subject which includes a photo of Höfle (in Reichswehr uniform, ca. 1933) with his young daughter; see: http://wairarapa.co.nz/times-age/weekly/tiscenko.html

Book
Hi Andreas,
True, there is not a lot of factual biographical information on the man in the book, but there is a perspective on what sort of man he was. In this hobby/area of research we all too often have absolutely no such background to look at.
Of course this is through the eyes of his daughter, but I think she paints a fair picture of her parents, and of similar Germans at that time.
Cheers

Re: Hermann Höfle
Wasn't Hoeffle on the staff of Odilo Globocnik? I thought "Globus" was his superior officer / "boss". I think I also read that Hoeffle witnessed Globocnik's suicide? I think he was identified standing over Globocnik's body but i'm not certain. I think i read about him in one of Gitta sereny's books "The Healing Wound".
