She's doing the classic tall woman thing and is slightly slouching. I guess her height must be around the 6' mark. I'm 6'2" and if I knew the height of some of the men in the pic I can guess hers.

Hello
Perhaps the link below is of interest. A norwegian nurse, serving with 3rd. & 4th.SS. Panzerkorps. On the eastern front, Minsk etc.etc, and later also in Normandy. Quite a few interesting pictures. Also pictures of norwegian and danish soldiers, a couple showing a interesting danish uniform detail, pinpointing the picture and unit to Brobruisk.

Hello Stril,

you were right. Seems to be a pop up blocker on my PC that bars the pictures. When I visited the site via my old WinMe PC anything was o.k. Sorry for causing the commotion.

Best regards
Torsten

Hello all,

here's an interesting picture from October 1944. It's a Stabshelferin (note twisted piping on the cap and on the jacket collar) of the Heer (Army). Especially interesting is the tie pin she's using. Seems to be the pin for Wehrmachtsgefolge. For more information on this pin see Vikki's second post in

And here's something nice, too. The wedding of a Luftwaffe Helferin, assisted by the other girls of her platoon.

Does anyone recognize the cathedral? The architecture looks like France or perhaps Belgium to me but I've no clue about the exact location.

What's that brooch? Just a private gem or did the Kriegsmarine have other broochs besides the normal one with the anchor?

A Luftwaffe Helferin from December 1941. (She's called Hilde and her rank is Luftnachrichtenflugmeldehaupthelferin. Presumably all enemy planes had disappeared behind the horizon before anyone could note her rank in the report sheet :-) )

Hello again,

I've found some pics of German female auxiliaries serving with 20th Mountain Army in Northern Finland during the war. Forum member Hanski was so kind to translate the photo captions from Finnish to English in the 'Soundbarrier' sub-forum. Two of the pictures show Helferinnen wearing trousers. While a costume with skirt and jacket was the normal attire of the Helferinnen those posted to extremely cold locations did also receive 'special' winter gear like trousers and boots.

The same woman as in the first picture on the left. But her jacket is missing the SS breast patch. Question for the uniform buffs: Did you receive the patch only after completing the course at the Oberehnheim school or is it something irregular?

Great photos, Torsten! Especially the shot of the woman wearing the overcoat!

You've hit on the reason for the absence of cufftitle and breast patch in the last picture. If it is indeed the same woman, it must have been taken before completion of her training at Oberenheim, testing, and placement as an SS- Helferin. See numbers 1 and 3 of the 14 August 1943 order by Himmler regarding SS-Helferinnen, clothing regulations, and wear of insignia (emphasis added):
1. The designation SS-Helferinnen remains confined to female personnel who have been trained in the Reichsschule SS at Oberenheim/Alsace, tested, and incorporated into the Corps of SS-Helferinnen.

2. All other female employees and workers who are in the service of the SS under contract or by virtue of an Emergency Service Order will be known as Kriegshelferinnen, insofar as they are entitled to be issued with service clothing during their employment in accordance with the Führer's Order of 11 January 1943.

3. Service clothing: The approved service clothing for SS-Helferinnen will also be worn by Kriegshelferinnen, but without distinguishing marks apart from the Hoheitsabzeichen on the headdress and left upper arm. SS runes, sleevebands with the inscription "Reichsschule-SS," and unit emblems are reserved for SS-Helferinnen only.
