Hello Bake!

Here are some good and interesting photographs of GMF Walter Model with contemporary german press texts. Source for both photographs and quotes is the excellent website http://presentations.uib.no/pls/portal/ ... _PART.show

Heres my favorite photo of Model. Not sure what that's supposed to be in his hand. Looks like a paper airplane to me :? Would appreciate it if someone shed some light on this mysterious item.

Here's in big format one of the pics posted by Bake:

Caption said Mar 1944 Nord Ukraine.

In reality maybe a littel later as Model only became Kmdr ArGr NUK Mar 31 1944.

On the extreme right was Raus, Kmdr PzAOK 1. Second from left was, I think, was Harpe, Kmdr PzAOK 4.

Who were the general on the extreme left ( Both Waegener - assume we see him wearing glasses - and Röhricht had more hair than that) and the staff officer between Raus and Model?

Cheers
Freiherr

Dear Freiherr,

here is the date, the location and the identification. See my pic from
Hansgeorg Model / Dermot Bradley "Generalfeldmarschall Walter Model" (Biblio-Verlag):

My pic from left:
visit to Armeegruppe Narwa March 44,
Alfons Rebane, GLt. Anton Grasser, GLt. Karl von Oven, Model, Johannes Friessner

So, dear Freiherr, the man at left in your pic is Friessner (not Harpe), at right is Grasser and von Oven at very left !!

Excellent doctor!!

But one correction.
Here was Alfons Rebane as Kmdr 658 (Est) OstBtl that was attached to XXVI Corp, commanded by Grasser. Friessner had just been transferred from ArmeeGr Mittee to the North to be in charge of Armee Abt Narwa.

v Oven would have been a reasonable fit. He was Kmdr of XXXXIII Corp in the same theatre. And bald. But he did not have a DKiG. So..... it was GenMj Paul Reichelt, CdS of Armee Abt Narwa.
:P

And another pic for everyone's enjoyment. With Reichelt's DKiG!

Cheers
Freiherr

Ok Alex, on second thought......

The general on ex left of first pic DK only .... Böckh-Behrens of 32 Div/XXVIII Corp?
The general in the mddle of second pic DK and RK ....Curt Siewert of 58 Div/XXXXIII Corp.

Cheers
Freiherr

Hello,

Excellent photos of Model. Not to change the subject concening the GFM but was it common practice for Gauleiter to wear a form of Military Tunic with their Gauleiter insignia during the later stages of the war? I ask this because I notice Gauleiter Karl Florian wearing a Political/Military tunic with his insignia while in converstaion with Model and Axmann in one of the photos posted above. I thank you in advance for any replies.
