From Chris McNab's German Paratroopers

Tunisia,January 1943--I think this could be Witzig or Genz.

Hello Peter!

First of all, what a truly great and interesting thread you've got going here. Thanks!

About your last posted photograph that you say was taken in Tunisia January 1943... You could see that the RKT FJ Officer is also carrying a DKiG but Alfred Genz never recieved that particular award and Rudolf Witzig recieved his DKiG on 17.10.1943 so...

Either is the date and place wrong or it's another FJ RKT Officer with the DKiG.

Krollspell

Thanks for the ID gents.

I don't consider myself an expert in this field. What's been collated here is the great efforts of historians like Eric Queen,Jean-Yves Nasse,Franz Kurowski,Willi Zahn and Oscar G who have dedicated themselves to the study of the Fallschirmjäger and on other military forums freely share their knowledge. Our own in forum assistance is also much appreciated.

Thanks Herr Doktor. :)

I think it comes from the film I linked under the Pietzonka posting here.

Pietzonka was said to have been "seriously injured" at Corinth in 1941 but this was really a broken leg.

In the book " Die Eichenlaubträger 1940-1945" by Peter Stockert
his name is Erich Pietzonka.
Eichenlaub 16-09-1944, so I suppose he receive is EL at brest just
before surrender.
