BdS: Befehlshaber der Sicherheitspolizei und des Sicherheitsdienstes (Commander of the Security Police and Security Services in a Wehrkreis or occupied territory; the term BdS originally applied only to the territories outside the greater Reich, with those holding this position within the Reich known as "Inspekteure der Sicherheitspolizei und des Sicherheitsdienstes" [IdS], but I believe they were uniformly designated, inside and outside of Germany, as BdS from 1943 onward).

KdS: Kommandeur der Sicherheitspolizei und des Sicherheitsdienstes (subordinate to a BdS, commanding the Sipo and SD in individual cities in the occupied territories)

The above is just off the top of my head- might not be 100% accurate, but I'm sure the accurate info. may be found via the search engine (just type in "BdS" or "KdS").

Best wishes,
~ Mike

Walter Odewald.
Already before 1933 he was a member of the German police.
He was a Kriminalpolizeibeamter and he was also a member from the illegal and forbidden movement Arbeitsgemeinschaft nationalsozialistischer Polizeibeamter.
Already in 1937 he had joined the SS.
As Nicht-Arbiturient he got promoted to Kriminalrat der Polizei.
SS-Sturmbannführer.
He was head of Abteilung V with the BdS in France.
After that he was head of Abteilung V with the BdS in Prague.
At the same time he was also head of the nichtuniformierten Polizei in the Protectorat Böhmen-Möhren.
After WW-2 he was Oberregierungsrat within the Landesamt für Verfassungschutz in Niedersachsen.

Greetings,
Mike

I have information that Walter Odewald was extradited after the war by the British authorities to Czechoslovakia but released without the trial from Czech captivity. Maybe someone can confirm that?
