The one just above with the wooden KC is definitely von T. Compare with this one (from Militaria 321 last week).

No doubt, both come from my collection, but we are talking about an unknown KC holder who is not von Tiesenhausen. I think it is Wilhelm Franken. Franken awarded the KC on April 4th 1943. His boat U 565 came home on May 12th 1943 to ............ LA SPEZIA.

Kind regards!

In the book U-565 by Helmut Jacksch, the identical photo to DocArciv's photo that he questioned, appears on page 7. It is dated May 13, 1943 and is signed by Wilhelm Franken at the top of it. I do not know how to transmit photos but pick up a copy of the book. A great read although in German language only..

Hello,

so we can finally say: It is Wilhelm Franken. Is that correct? I collect for 30 years and never saw photographs of him. He is like Heydemann.

Thank you!

Yes, it is Franken. I think J. Toner's unidentified photo is Franken too. There are seven different fotos of Franken receiving the KC in Jacksch's book. I have collected U-boat fotos for many years and the beards (facial hair) can make identification difficult at times.

On page 171 of this thread, Rudi Wolfmueller is labeled as an imposter. I can, in fact, confirm that he was awarded every award that he is wearing in this photo except for the Ritterkreuz - I wouldn't rule out that he received this award in the last days of the war.
