Re: Knight's Cross Holders Identification
Oberbootsmannmaat Mühlbauer was the only Maat (leading seaman), serving in the U-boats, that received the Knights Cross. He served since April 1939 in the Navy and switched in autumn 1939 to the U-boats. He was on board of U-123 from the commission and took part in very successful patrols under Moehle and Hardegen with a total sinkings of more than 200,000 tons.
Also outstanding were his 822 748 days at sea, nearly two years and a 4 months on patrol! In two cases he, with his sure eyes, saved the boat from being sunk by the enemy.
U-123 - 8 patrols, 352 days 05.40 - 1942
U-170 - 4 patrols, 396 days 01.43 - 05.45

Best regards
George

Had a phone from Jürgen Huß, who is an author of books in our hobby (NEW: Die Ritterkreuzträger aus dem Mannschaftsstand). He says, that we talk about Oberleutnant Adolf Fischbach.
Who agrees?

Hello,
Definitely not Helbig.
My version is based on two points:
1) Walter Bradel participated in operation "Weserübung" as part of KG 3 and he could be awarded a Narvik shield, but we don't have information about this (omission in award documents or incomplete information?)
2) His facial features and some of awards matched (in my view)
Best wishes
Ruslan
This picture confirms you version. Many thanks!
Best wishes. Denis

Re: Knight's Cross Holders Identification
In the Topp, Korth & Endrass photo on page 321 Korth was originally wrongly identified as Kuppisch. By coincidence, Kuppisch is actually present as a fourth member of the group, but cropped out of that version of the picture.
