New Volksgrenadier soldiers sworn in, officer speaks and Volksgrenadiere take oath (11 Jan 1945). Who is the Ritterkreuzträger in speech?

For comparisn here is a nice 1942, RK photo of Mummert inside : http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... it=Mummert

edit / Bernd R : this is settled. Not realized within this thread. See the discussion in the following posts and the closing post on page 339

Announcement

this thread was started to have one place for the identification of KC Holders. Later the index was added. Right now there are listed appr. 1.175 different recipients there. If you think about a next step of this sticky, one of the ideas you can have is : why shouldn’t we go for a compilation of ALL Knight’s Cross Holders ? The installation of a
RKT photo database.

Well, with the highest respect in view of this aim I would like to say Yes, let’s do this, the thread is open for this expansion from now on ! The topic title is adapted already.

I want to emphasize that the identification part of this thread has to remain the other important part of this thread. It was created for the requests of the members and future members and it is “their” place for “their” questions. To give answers and to discuss issues and details of themes posted is what made this sticky a remarkable one and what this forum is all about.
Therefore let’s try to achieve the performance of the new part/project without disturbing the essential id process. One basic regulation I have in mind is : everyone who kindly is willing to provide RKT photos should restrict himself the way of posting at the most 5 photos a week.

Don’t fear any artificial “bureaucracy” but here are a few other regulations just to have a fine running :

1) Quality rules over quantity. The database doesn’t need masses of pics for one person. The important thing is to have a reference pic. The number of photos for one KC Holder is limited to 2-3.

2) Ideally provide a half-length portrait.

3) Ideally provide photos with a good depth of focus.

A second string of this project is the attempt to find very rare if not “non-existing” photos for a number of appr. 200 KC Holders. Still during the war and through all the decades after the war never ever a photo of these recipients was published or became known. To the best for some of those a low-quality newspaper pic became known. That’s what experienced collectors and researchers tell us. You find the “special” thread here :

Special RKT photo database : appr. 200 unknown !?

You have always access to it easily via this link, added to the index of this sticky here, too.

Many thanks in advance for posting photos from your own collection, your familiy archives,
from published or un-published works, or from online sites. Give proper credit always, please. Take notice of the forum guidelines about attaching photos -> http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?p=5&f=2#p5 , thanks !

Kind regards,

Hello,

Сertainly this is the great and important beginning which help make our forum better, but my opinion "Megamonster" thread it's inconvenient and hard to use. Can be better to divide them on two "sticky": "Old style" Knight's Cross Holders ID and the new Biggest Photo Database of RK holders? What do you think, Bernd and all?

Best wishes

That sounds like a very good idea to me and I want to agitate for this proposition.
