Hi Jos
the guns are 120/45 mm.
The train is probably T.A. (Treno Armato) 120/1 or 2 or 3 or 4/S captured at La Spezia after the Italian surrender of September 8th.
The train was compose of (more or less):
1 steam locomotive GR 470 GS
4 gun wagons
1 flatbeds maybe with 20mm AA guns (Breda 35), earlier with 13,2mm AA guns
1 fire control wagon
1 ammo wagon
1 steam locomotive GR 470 GS

Teorically (in 1940) the train was matched with a logistic convoy when operating far from the base:
1 steam locomotive GR 470 GS
1 office wagon
1 kitchen wagon
2 rest wagons
1 baggage wagon
2 additional ammo wagons
1 railway storage wagon
Now I have at hand only info about the train at the beginning of the war, later things became more difficult to trace.
If you need other info about the 120/40 gun, italian railway guns, or the train please ask.

For the information on the Italian railway guns , so this should also be a 120/45 ??

Do you have any information on the railway guns that were used in the Venice area
end 1944 early 1945 the battéries V 678 or 4./632 ( Pointa Sabbioni ) and V 627 or
6./632 ( Casa Bianca ) both equipped with 6 x 10 cm railway guns could be the 102 mm ??

The 120/45 wagon is the only italian gun wagon with 1 gun x wagon and structures at both ends.
The 152/40 wagon has 1 gun on a flatbed wagon.

A picture from ebay.com. The guns seem to have the same barrel as on Jos' picture above but without the shield.

Interestingly, the Italians did not use cupolas for their 194 mm railway guns unlike the French on the 194 mm TAZ Mle 1870/93 but they still used a rotating platform.

Hello,
I can add that after 1945 Polish Navy used such train consisting of 5x194m ex-fench guns as a mobile sea cost battery.

I have found two other links showing pictures of Italian railway guns:

See bottom page under "LA SECONDA GUERRA MONDIALE" here:

http://www.itisvinci.com/~sarti/storia%201914-1945.htm

There is a picture of a 194 mm gun. I'm not sure about the other one.

and "Treno armato a Siracusa":

http://www.modellismopiu.it/modules/new ... 1&forum=39

The two pictures on this last link illustrate the two railway guns presented by raspagliosi above. :D
