Re: 9.4 cm Flak M 39 (e) in Holland

Hello!
Best regards, Aleks
Frankly to say, I don't know, but the uniform of the soldier in the foreground points to warm region, so it quite well may be Italy.Sturm78 wrote: Used the germans these guns in Italy?

It looks like a MkI mobile mounting, the follow the pointer sight is just in front of the traverse (or elevation) handle, which indicates the layers sat facing the front. The chap in the forground is possibly hiding the gun layer's seat. The MkIII mobile the layers faced to the rear. Mk I mobiles would have been the type of gun taken over to Greece in 1941, so could be either captured by the Italians or a Germans, but after 1943 would have been used by the Germans.
I have a feeling that I have read somewhere the British sent the Greeks some 3.7 inch guns but I am not 100% sure of my memory
Another idea is that the photo was taken in Greece. The gun is either in British green or German grey by its dark shade in the photo. Not the later sand colour used by the Germans so does tend to indicate it could be taken earlier than 1943. I think the photo is pre the Itailan surrender form the uniform being worn. The field cap being worn by both of the gunners is the early war version (I know many were still on the heads of those who surrendered in 1945). The field cap and the dark colour of the gun together do not suggest late war.

The back of the picture has the following note: "engl. schwere flak bei Wimereux". Therefore, it would a gun of the abandoned British AA battery north of Boulogne, right?

Hi Jos
The director and height finder in the last photo do not appear to be the ones that the guns would have had when new. They just do not look like British ones, A.A.No 1 (Vickers) Predictor and Barr & Stroud 9-foot A.A. height finder. Could they be Belgian design and the guns ex Belgian not British?
Clive
Source, AA Command, Britian's anti aircraft defences of the Second World War Source, IWM Source, from my hard drive , cannot remember source but same image is on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:AA-Pr ... II-001.jpg

Hello Clive
Please read the post from David Lehmann on page one , these 9.4 cm were French
they were exchanged for 2.5 cm French pak. I have seen several picture's with B.E.F.

Re: 9.4 cm Flak M 39 (e) in Holland
Hi Jos
I know that France had the 3.7 inch but the height finder and predictor do not look like French equipment. Not having seen a battery of French 3.7 inch guns I could not say what ranging equipment they had but the ones fro their own guns were a combined height finder and predictor. Source, my hard drive
Belguim also had 3.7 inch guns http://niehorster.orbat.com/021_belgium ... e_gta.html that is why I asked was the the ranging equipment of Belgian design.

Hello Clive
I could not find any information on the rangefinder ( Belgian or French )
this is a Ebay photo of the same M.K.B. but I think of a later date , as
you see a other model rangefinder .
