The Croatian General with EK-I is Marshal Slavko Kvaternik.

The attached picture has been scanned (excuse the bad quality) from the book "Rückmarsch Then and know".
Caption says WRONGLY that it is general NEULING being captured by the americans in Southern France. HE IS NOT. They could have saved the explanation about the Knigth Cross hidden or robbed.
He might be Gen.Lt. Hans SCHÄFER that was captured as well in Southern France but I can not confirm it. The only pictures of this general I´ve got are of poor quality. Besides, I don´t see any pip on his shoulders.
I would appreciate your help to identify him.
Cheers.

Reviewing old files I came accros this picture from the "Generals" thread of the Wehrmacht Awards Forum.
The general was identified by Elwyn as "Siegfried RASP commander of the 3 Geb.Div.".
Let me make some comments about it.
1.-First of all, the face doesn´t look very much like RASP´s.
2.-RASP was "Führ. 3.Geb.D." while being an Oberst. The General on the picture is a Gen.Lt.
3.-The picture is not clear enough to me to ID the officer on the left. Could he be RASP when he was Chef.Gen.St.XXIII AK ?. If that is the case, the general might be HILPERT even though the resemblance to the good pictures available from him is not that great.

Your comments will be much appreciated.

Hi Miocid-to me it is Rasp, in the pics I have he wears his IC 1st Class with Spange as the pic shows, though the pic might no be ref. 3. Geb.-Div.
Kind Regards

Hi Harmel and Miocid!

Whilst it is difficult to be absolutely certain, it certainly looks as if the officer has the 1 pip of a Generalleutnant, in which case it can't be Rasp, as Rasp received the Ritterkreuz and the DKiG as a Generalmajor and Kommandeur 335. Infanterie-Division.

Very best regards,

VJK

Hello,

I'm not so sure that is Paul Hausser. Yes there is a general similarity but there are important differences in the details.

Best wishes
Ruslan

Post by Tom Nutter » 15 Sep 2012 17:31

Is there anyone who is able to assist me in identifying this officer? The photographs are from NARA.

With best wishes.

Tom
