For 240 Mle 1903 TR guns, I think that it could be the Toulbroch battery in Brittany but I'm not 100% sure.

Hi Emmanuel,
The cursive writing could be Fermanville.

I'm thinking instead of a 274 mm Mle 1881 on a "M 1888 PC" carriage when comparing with the pictures on the website fortiff.be under French fortifications > Armement> canon de 27c.

Is someone able to read German cursive from WW2 and write what is written on the picture? That would tell us where the picture has been taken and we could then cross-referenced the gun type.

Thank you JK! :D “Fermanville” made me think of Cherbourg and I’ve found the location 8-) . It is one of the four 274 mm Mle 1881 guns of the lower battery at Fort de l’Ile Pelée in Cherbourg harbor.

To more precise, the picture shows the gun that is the closest to the wall of the fort. For those who have the book, you can see it on the pictures on pages 22 and 23 of “Les batteries de côte en Normandie 1939-1940” by Alain Chazette.

German text reads: Frankreich 1941 Schweres Geschütz in Wasser
translated: France 1941 heavy gun in water
I assume the writer means that the gun is stationed in a fortress island.

Thank you very much, kgvm. :D "Ile Pelee" (in English "Bare Island") was indeed a fortress island.

Probably late 1942 after the invasion of Southern France and before Gepanzertes Artillerie Regiment 2. moved to North Afrika. The picture is part of a series of several pictures on ebay that show this unit in Southern France.

You can actually see a 15 cm sFH 13/1 (Sfl) auf Lorraine Schlepper of Gep. Art.-Regt. 2. on the right of the picture just where the barrels end.
