To complete the capsule: According to the Finnish award lists he was awarded the Finnish Cross of Liberty Order, 2nd Class with swords:

Also many thanks.
Re: General Siegfried Kempf
Siegfried Kempf was indeed awarded with Finish Cross (a very beautiful medal). This must have been during his work for Canaris.
After WW II Siegfried worked at the US HQ in Heidelberg as General of the Cicil Service and decorade with one of the highest non American medals.
By the way, Siegfried is the Cousin of General Werner Kempf.

Re: General Siegfried Kempf
Dear Dave, thanks this is an outstanding info. I have a follow up question if you don´t mind:
The reason I am asking is that I am currently trying to pin down when Abteilung WNV was renamed Amtsgruppe Ag WNV. In the Personalakte of Hans Juppe he was promoted to Gen. Maj. on 20.10.1940, still as "Abteilungschef".
However on 21.03.1942 he was appointed Kdr. 371. Inf. Div. as per as 01.04.1942 and on 12.04.1942 was instead shifted to FR as per as 01.04.1942, both as Chef Ag WNV.
So it appears that renaming happened between 20.10.1940 and 21.03.1942. Do you happen to know when?
Jürgen
Do the personell accounts really give "Abt. Chiffrierwesen, Amtsgruppe Wehrmacht-Nachrichtenverbindungen, OKW"?15.07.39 Chef der Abteilung Chiffrierwesen, Amtsgruppe Wehrmacht-Nachrichtenverbindungen, OKW

Re: General Siegfried Kempf
The list was created some 10 years ago by Shawn, ie fellow member USAF1986. He posted that list from Grand Cross down to 2nd Class in this forum, as he received a copy of the original award lists from the authorities in SF via forum member Tom.

Re: General Siegfried Kempf
I checked the list and saw that he only posted Grand Cross down to 1st Class. The award date of Kempf is courtesy of USAF1986.
