Re: Umbauwagen
These premium US brands certainly did attract the artistry of the German bodywork specialists. Here are a couple of shots of Buicks with some other exotica in the background. Not the greatest photos I am afraid, but interesting.

Re: Umbauwagen
Greetings Bill, and thanks again.
Here is an oddity. The "bike is easy enough, but lurking in the poorly exposed and focused background is what I take to be an umbau. It seems to be based on a ford chassis, but the curious thing is the double rear wheel setup. The body resembles a generic command-type cabriolet, but with the heavyweight rear end.
Has anybody any ideas, or has anyone seen another? I considered Dutch or Belgian vehicles, but could not find anything like this.
Many thanks for looking,
Kerry..

Re: Umbauwagen
Hi Kerry:
A remarkable shot and thanks for that!!
To my eyes, it is a 1938 or 1939 Ford but unlike anything I have seen before. It seems to sit fairly low to the ground, meaning it does not look like a 1.5 tonner but it has 1.5 ton wheel equipment including both the single front and dual rears. As you say, the body seems like a normal coach built command car.
I will keep looking, but for now I am a bit clueless.

Re: Umbauwagen
Hi Markus,
That does look like the beast, or another similar. It looks even more monstrous with people next to it for scale. The soldiers in your photo do not look like Police, but Wehrmacht, the motorcyclists in mine are Police, but, I guess, not necessarily connected to the cabrio.
Thanks,
Kerry.

"Wish I'd have them twin rear tyres". From exp. eBay.de auction N:o 380521381472.

Re: Umbauwagen
It is interesting to compare the relative size of Markus' Ford and this Steyr based commandcar. I know that the policeman is standing on the kerb, but there is definitely a difference in scale.

Re: Umbauwagen
Since this is a very interesting topic perhaps Christian or Marcus could split off the last few posts into a thread of their own, "Monster Command Cars" instead of leaving them amongst the umbaus? In any case, let's not forget that the Allies had some monster command cars of their own, like this Dodge:
