My father joined in Brisbane in 1939, was initially in the 2/5 Field Regiment but was transferred to the 2/1st Anti Tank Regiment in the Middle East on 1/4/41. I have his service record but it never gives any details about where in the Middle East. I know that after Crete he was I TelAviv because he talked about sitting near the beach, drinking beer and listening to an orchestra. He was transferred to the 2/3 Field Regiment on 22/9/41 and returned to Australia with them on the Durban Castle.
How do I find out more details about where he might have been in the Middle East?
He sailed on ships with code names HM Transport X.I. and HMT L10, how do I find out what these Ships are called? I believe one of them might have been the Queen Mary.
When he landed in UK it was at a place Garrock? Its hard to decipher the hand writing on his service record. Is this right? Where would he have been In the UK?
I have been using some resources but I need more details about where I can look and what information I need.
It's good to some other sons and grandsons are on this sight. I would like to make some sort of written record for my brother, nephews, and my children and grandchildren.

I was able to copy "TARGET TANK" from a copy belonging to Pat Garvin in 1996 (Pat has now passed) but scanning in those days was in its infancy and all the pages are individually photoed in Tiff format) My father in law, Sidney Hamilton Phillipson NX34556 was in 11 battery and captured in Fort Mechelli)
I would be interested in any photos of the time.
If I can figure out how to convert the Tiff files to WORD I will share

2/3 ATnk Regiment - My National ROTA Membership Database and associated Website has 161 Members of 2/3 ATnk who Served through the Siege of Tobruk (April 10 till about end of September 1941. A number of these Rats had transferred from the 2/12 Field Regiment. I am seeking more Rats who Served in Tobruk Siege Units and also their Descendants and Relatives to apply for Affiliate Membership of ROTA Inc, in Honour of the Memory of their Rat and his Service to Country, and, To Keep The FLAME Burning, in Memory of All Rats of Tobruk. I hope my Website is of use to all of those who are seeking information about their Rat of Tobruk who Served with 2/3 ATnk and other Anti Tank Units as well. I can be contacted direct by Email. Barneybig - Can you please forward copies of your Father in Law's (NX34556) B103 Service and Casualty Form so that I can confirm he was at Tobruk during the Siege, as a Rat of Tobruk, so that I can add him to my National ROTA Database. Hello, my grandfather served in 2/1st Anti Tank Regiment. I’m currently trying to do some research on his journey. Anyone else done something similar? I have photos from his time abroad. Shane

The 2/1st Anti Tank Regiment was with the 6th Division and was not involved in the Siege of Tobruk, from April 10 till November 7, 1941.
The 2/3rd Anti Tank Regiment was at Tobruk during the Siege Period.

hi Guys
I have come across this forum by looking into researching my great grandfathers WW2 service , he was in the 2/3rd and the 24th anti tank company service number WX9245 John Ashley Nundy
i have started trying to research his service and i have his national archives scans
i haven't been able to find any copies of the book target tank to see if there is any details about him in it ! does anyone know where i may be able to find one? and is there any other places i should look !! i can see he was wounded twice and was also charged with an offence ( striking an officer i believe)
i do have a copy of the 2/28th book by Phillip Macel and the Kalgoorlie to Cairo book as well but they don't have much mention of any specifics
im also trying to see on the AWM site if there is a unit diary the same as the 2/28th diary to see if he was listed there
any help would be really appreciated
thanks
Darryl

Good Morning Darryl; I have WX9245 on my National ROT Database of 19,129 records, but he is listed in the "UnConfirmed Section, because his Service Records are not viewable online. Can you please Scan the pages of his B103 Service and Casualty Form, for the Dates from his Disembarkation till November 1941, so that I can Verify his Service Movements. Then I can move him to the "Tobruk" Section. Please attach to an Email. Best Regards, Owen Carlton, Ex ROTA Melbourne. ( [email protected] ) ( www.ratsoftobruktribute.com )
