Signs of being a Habsburg holic:
1. The ring tone on your cellphone is either the Radesky march or God Maintain and God Protect our Emperor and our land

2. Have and read lots of books on A-H and it's military

3. Get depressed on days in history when bad things happen to the A-H Empire and it's military

4. 4. Thick the Empress Zita is a real babe

5. Cry when you watch film clips of the battleship Szvent Stephan sinking

6. Read all of "Austria-Hungary's Last war 1914-1918"

7. Like Mozart and waltzing

8.Schlamperei Sloathfullness (muddle) is the norm

Good morning James,
Sidebar: Happy Indy Day ! Have a pleasant and safe holiday.
The other side of the story; ... Aren't the Hapsburgs the ones pushing child cruelty on their subjects ?
They made William Tell shoot an apple off of his son's head.
They also suppressed the Revolution of 1848.
One of the nicest places I ever visited in Hungary was a place named Pecs. Obviously, my "locals" contacts took me there. It's off the "beaten path". A great place !
This stuff is getting interesting.

my last trip to europe took a strange turn, instead of a holiday it ended being "the austro hungarian emprie and its effects on modern european borders" class to my wife ..
though, she enjoyed it and it started a deep interest in the history of the balkans and southern europe..
one of the higlight of the trip was a visit tothe imperial crypt in vienna, on my mothers side, my grandmother was granddaugher of a french officer that came to mexico with maximilian of hapsburg.

10. When you go to the beach in Triest you say: "Oh our lovely sea again!"

The catch is that you're not from the Italian peninsula...

11. You have a Skoda car.

You know it's Porsche owned, but Ferdinand Porsche was also A-H born :D

12. You call your dog Tesla or Kando.

13. You drink wine from Tokaj and beer from Plzen.

14. You have gardening machinery from Maribor.

15. You can differentiate between plejskavica, cevapcica, mic and saslik blindfolded.

Best city I've ever been to. That's where I went to university and met my wife. :) We still visit it from time to time, as we have a few friends teaching at the uni now.

Should you ever come here again, feel free to give me a holler. It would be my pleasure to guide you around. Maybe we could visit my vineyard near lake Balaton as well! ;)

As a follow-on to Peter89's post #7 of February, I guess this is Number 16, so:

16. An indisputable 'Sign of being a Habsburg holic' is knowing that Austria-Hungary had a navy....(a pretty good one at that. 8-))
