Jean Bart battleship, info needed

#1

Post by Joda » 07 Aug 2018, 12:26

According to "Von Berlin bis Caen" of T.Fischer, the SS-Schw.Artillerieabteilung 101 heavily hit and damaged the french battleship "Jean Bart".
But I cannot find any related info on the web.

Is this true?

Thanks in advance

Marco

Hello Marco,

Do you have a date when this occurred? Jean Bart escaped St. Nazaire to NA and then to Casablanca.

I take it you mean June 14 in the area of the Channel. Jean Bart was not there. No French battleship was.

Hi Marco,
I didn't know but the SS-Schw.Artillerieabteilung 101 was destroyed in 1943 at Stalingrad and when it was refitted it was renamed into Heeres-Artillerie-Abteilung 101
Kindly regards
Prosper

Hi Prosper, the SS Schw.Art.Abt.101 was formed in Oct 1943 with SS Obersturmbannf. Steineck as its commander, then was part of 1.ss PzKorps in Normandy , and it is sometimes referred as Korps Artillerie abteilung. It was renamed 501 about in Oct/Nov 1944.

The one you refer to is a Heer unit, not WSS:
