Post by wiganer » 21 Jul 2008, 20:12

Hello can anybody help,

Did the Hermann Göring division have their own unit song or music, if so does anybody know what it was called or what it sounded like.

I once saw something on the back of a music CD but cant seem to find it again now.

any help welcomed and thanks for your help in advance.

regards Mark

Hello, Mark

This probably isn't what you've hoped for, but I guess it's better than nothing: I have no idea at the moment if the unit had a song of its own, but I know that they used the old Gottfried Rode's march "Der Jäger aus Kurpfalz" as their parade march.

Cheers,
Ivan

0:11 Die ganze Kompanie (Herms Niel)
0:35 Der Jäger aus Kurpfalz [AM II, 243] [AM III, 137] (Gottfried Rode) Trio: Der Jäger aus Kurpfalz (Anonym)
1:18 unknown

(Reminder: Rode's march "Der Jäger aus Kurpfalz", based on the folk song of the same name, was the unit parade march.)

Cheers,
Ivan

Please, could you tell, which source does mention this march as the divisional parade march? :)

Of course: Fred K. Prieberg, Handbuch Deutsche Musiker 1933-1945, p. 5792.
Prieberg S-5792.jpg
See also p. 1048; it was the signature march of Hermann Göring's, who was an avid hunter and Reichsjägermeister.
Prieberg S-1048.jpg
Notice that Prieberg mentions it as the "General Göring" regimental parade march. The regiment later grew into the "Hermann Göring" Division; naturally, units didn't change their parade marches and songs depending on their size.

As we can see, the same as Hitler's signature march (Badonviller-Marsch) was the parade march of his bodyguard regiment (LSSAH, which later grew into a division), Göring's signature march (Der Jäger aus Kurpfalz) was the parade march of his regiment ("General Göring", which also eventually grew into a division).

Cheers,
Ivan
