Re: Werner Schmidt-Hammer 168. Infanterie-Division?
Hello R.M.

Hello Dave
Sure about Wilberg because this officer evidently wears the army infantry uniform
Was Wilberg maybe first in the Army ? I don' t have him in my "Heer" data bank, but If yes, from+to when and in which assignments ?
Thanks, Rossano

Thanks to the enormous generosity of my friend Dieter... Well, Werner Schmidt-Hammer, as never seen before.Dave Danner wrote: ↑08 Nov 2017, 10:59Supplement to Werner Schmidt-Hammer's decorations:

15.01.1935 Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer

xx.xx.1939 Wehrmacht (Heer) Dienstauszeichung 1. Klasse
xx.xx.xxxx Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 1. Oktober 1938 mit Spange “Prager Burg”
11.05.1940 Spange zum EK II
26.05.1940 Spange zum EK I
19.02.1943 Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen in Silber
11.03.1943 Deutsches Kreuz in Gold
02.03.1944 Nennung im Ehrenblatt
02.09.1944 Ritterkreuz
There is a ribbon after the Dienstauszeichnungen on the Feldspange in Lassance's photo above. It is probably the Sudetenland Medal (Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 1. Oktober 1938) with clasp, since Infanterie-Regiment 31 was part of those operations.

Re: Werner Schmidt-Hammer 168. Infanterie-Division?
Hello guys, searching for info on Lieutenant Colonel Schmidt-Hammer got me here on this forum.
I live in Belgium, East Flanders - Eeklo. Webmaster of Meetjesland 1940. https://meetjesland1940.be/
During the invasion of Belgium with the 456th infantry regiment of which Lieutenant Colonel Schmidt-Hammer was regimental commander, he was wounded by a grenade splinter during the fighting on 26.05.1940 in Adegem. That's only a few miles from where I live.
On 09.06.1940 the regiment got a new commander - Hernn Oberstleutnant Gepp. But not for long. On 26.06.1940 he was replaced again by the now healed Schmidt-Hammer.
Now the question is, does anyone have any info on Herr Oberstleutnant Gepp? The name and rank is all I know.
By the way, nice pictures of Schmidt-Hammer.

Hi Luc
Of course You found no info on Gepp, simply because his name is Gebb !
Apart that, where did You get those dates from ?
If, as You write, Schmidt-Hammer was wounded on 26.5.40, did he remain by the Rgt. until 9.6.40 when Gebb replaced him ?
From div. history infact Schmidt-Hammer was replaced by Gebb in the beginning of june 40 (but no wound on 26.5 is mentioned)
Besides, from Gebb' s Dienstlaufbahn he took over the Rgt. on 8 june
Finally Schmidt-Hammer took over again his Rgt. in dec. 40 (after Gebb 2 more officers led the Rgt. i.V. until dec. 40)
Rgds., Rossano
