Re: Help Id these heavy coastal guns
Kirkenes is correct.
This is the Marine-Artillerie Batterie (M.A.B. by naval standards) Mestersand located on an island north of Kirkenes. The guns, 4 x 24 xm SKL/40 in Bettungschiessgerüst, are from the former Batterie Skagerak at Sylt. The battery is most known for its bombardment of russian land forces approaching Kirkenes from the south.
The photo is probably taken by PK-Berichter Fasshauer and is then available from Bundesarchiv Koblenz ref. Bild 101I-110-1664-(plus frame number)

Re: Help Id these heavy coastal guns
Most probable. This is also a picture taken by Fasshauer, but on a later roll of film. As the Leistand at Mestersand was blown up in October 1944 it is difficult to say with absolute certainty, but the landscape in the background looks like Skogeröy, and there are other pictures on the same filmroll that strongly indicates Mestersand.

Re: Help Id these heavy coastal guns
I think it is a French 164,7 mm Modèle 1887 coastal gun. Maybe at the Arros-Soulac battery.

Was it ever used by the Germans? I’m sceptical.
Thanks.

Re: Help Id these heavy coastal guns
Nezar,
The Germans kept the French 164,7 mm guns in their MBK at Arros-Soulac (Gi 307) and built casemates around them. The battery resisted Allied/French attacks until April 1945. During the fighting, the Germans pulled out some guns from their casemates to fire at the attackers.
