RAD Badge Identification
RAD Badge Identification
Can someone confirm if the unit on the RAD badge that is on the sleeve above the swastika armband is 47 with 4 underneath? It should be a unit located near Berlin in 1938.

Re: RAD Badge Identification
I have a source that says 4/42 was RAD-Lager for women so we could be wrong; can you verify if this correct?
If so then we need to reexamine his sleeve number.
According to the law, women of the Third Reich also had to serve in RAD.
Re: RAD Badge Identification
It's very indistinct, but my guess is 4,
We need a higher res original
Cheers

Re: RAD Badge Identification
That is what I originally thought, so it would be 4/47 if it was a 4 underneath.
But that group is not listed in the link http://forum.balsi.de/index.php?topic=2060.0

Re: RAD Badge Identification
I believe it could be so, see my post #3, but it still could be 4/42. The German 2 and 7 look similar but the 4 is distinct, and it really looks like there is a little 4 as the bottom number. There is 4/42 for men according to the table could be found at Pommern near Bütow until 1938 (which is when the photograph was taken), but other sources say it could have also been for women. Maybe 4/42 is the correct unit and after 1938 it was re-designated a women's group?
As for RAD-Lager-Gruppe 47 Lübbenau it is also near Berlin, ironically 42 and 47 are almost equidistant from Berlin!

What do you gentlemen think - is it 4/42 Hohennauen- Nordend or mystery X/47?
Re: RAD Badge Identification
Hohennauen is at least near Berlin, the claimed hometown of this man. I only wonder if his datas/information arte correct. We don´t have any documents of him which states wre he was born or did live. Only his own words on the immigration/naturalisation file. And who knows if they´re correct?
Re: RAD Badge Identification
He is for sure born in Berlin (I do not know which district) and he joined RAD when he lived in Berlin in April 1938 (which is after he was sailing with the SS Deutschland in 1937). I think you are correct about 4/42 Hohennauen-Nordend, this is probably the correct RAD-Lager for him.history1 wrote: ↑05 Nov 2018, 16:36Hohennauen is at least near Berlin, the claimed hometown of this man. I just need to confirm if 4/42 was converted into a women's group later or if this was inaccurate information.
