Re: Id. old gun
My best guess is that this is one of two 150 MM 40 cal guns removed from the Austrian cruiser Kaiserin Elisabeth during the siege of Port Arthur and mounted in a battery between two forts. These guns were specially made for this ship to replace her earlier 240 mm gun. I base this on the presence of a soldier who appears Japanese as well as the statement at the bottom of the page.

Re: Id. old gun
Disregard my previous message. I found myu data and the gun in question does not match the austrian gun. Different recoil system and barrel.

Re: Id. old gun
From examination of the recoil system and gun tube the closest match I can find is a Bethlehem Steel 6 inch. Simular weapons were mounted in the British coastal defenses during WW I. Picture from internet, Shetland Museum site.

Re: Id. old gun
One final comment, the shield would appear to be a naval casemate shield for broadside guns.

Re: Id. old gun
In case no one noticed in my original post I confused Port Arthur and Tsingtao. I really must ease off of the alcohol.
Re: Id. old gun
This is a simplified battery of the Russian fortress Port Arthur. The battery was built on July 22, 1904, and was located behind Fort No. 2. One 6-inch Armstrong gun was mounted on the battery, but after the first shot the artillery shutter was wedged. The second gun on the battery could not be installed because of its incompleteness.
Most likely these two 6-inch 40-calibers Armstrong guns were produced in 1894 or 1895. Coastal guns were delivered to China, were armed with the fortress of Dagu or the fortress of Beitang. Most likely 1900 the guns were captured by the Russians in the fortress of Beitang (there were two guns at the forts No. 3 and No. 5).
The photo shows a Japanese soldier after the surrender of Port Arthur fortress.

Re: Id. old gun
Despite my lack of Russian language knowledge I found the article very informative. However I do not believe the mystery gun in question is not an Armstrong but a Bethlehem produced 152 mm gun. I base this non only on the barrel and recoil system match but also the peculiar construction on the left rear, see circled photos,. The presence of a casemate type small circular shield would indicate the weapon being sourced from a ship. The most likely candidate is the Battleship Retivzan which was built to an American design and armament by Cramp and sons
