Hi all,

Can somebody identify this sniper rifle ??

Now I must ask how you recognize m/39 "Ukko-Pekka" becuse the stock cannot be seen?
I had one as a recruit and I can only identify it by the stock.

When it comes to this particular photo - barrel bands (siderenkaat) are the most obvious detail that immediately reveals the rifle as m/39. Both the upper barrel band and lower barrel band (with metal loops for rifle sling both at left side and bottom) were/are Finnish designs unique to this rifle model. BTW: The "bump" in wrist-section of the rifle stock is not 100% reliable way for identifying rifle m/39 - Sako manufactured early on about 7,000 rifle stocks of their own design commonly referred as straight stock, they got used in about 6,200 early production rifles (with consecutive serial number range) with remaining 800 straight rifle stocks being used later as replacements. Attached is photo of Sako m/39 with straight rifle stock.



When I was a recruit I got issued with brand-new RK 62 manufactured by Valmet just two years earlier - I still have fond memories about accuracy of that rifle. It was probably one the things, which got me seriously interested about shooting with military style rifles. However am quite familiar with rifle m/39, since I bought one about decade ago and have been doing target shooting with it ever since.

The center rifle's rear sight indicates it is a M28/30. Denny
